BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhua) -- "Black Panther" led the Chinese film market Saturday, earning 170 million yuan (about 26.86 U.S. dollars), according to Maoyan, a popular film database in China.
"Black Panther" is Marvel Studios' latest superhero film. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film stars Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa/Black Panther who returns home as king of Wakanda but finds his sovereignty challenged by a long-time adversary in a conflict with global consequences.
It earned over 130 million yuan on its opening on Friday.
China's anti-terrorism action film "Operation Red Sea" came in second, making about 59.4 million yuan Saturday. It has made more than 3.28 billion yuan since Feb. 16.
The third place went to domestic film, "Detective Chinatown 2," which took in 26.4 million yuan and has made 3.27 billion yuan in three weeks of screening.
Indian film "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" landed in the fourth place, earning 20 million yuan.
Rounding out the top five was documentary "Amazing China", which took about 14.6 million yuan Saturday.
