BEIJING, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Police caught about 130,000 people driving under the influence during the World Cup, which closed Sunday, said the Ministry of Public Security Monday.
The cases consisted of 114,000 minor drink driving cases, about 20,000 serious ones and more than 870 involving drugs, the ministry said.
The death toll caused by the DUI cases was 32 percent lower than during the 2014 World Cup.
Since the opening of the 2018 World Cup on June 14, traffic police have launched a special national operation and increased night patrols.
