CAIRO, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- An Egyptian court on Tuesday sentenced six people to death for conducting a terror attack at a security checkpoint in north of Cairo.
The attack, which happened in 2016, killed a policeman, the official news agency MENA reported.
The Cairo Criminal Court also sentenced two defendants to life in prison and four others to 3-15 years with the same charges.
The defendants were also charged with establishing a terrorist group.
Egypt has been experiencing anti-security attacks since former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi was ousted by the military in 2013 and his Muslim Brotherhood group was banned in 2014.
Thousands of militants have been detained and hundreds were facing trials. Morsi and some prominent figures of his group have received final verdicts that varied from death to life sentences over charges of murder, violence and spying.
