TOKYO, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday as U.S. shares advancing overnight and solid domestic corporate earnings set a positive market mood.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 201.07 points, or 0.94 percent, from Tuesday to 21,658.36.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 13.88 points, or 0.86 percent, at 1,625.34.
Electric appliance, precision instrument, and information and communication-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
