RIO DE JANEIRO, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Arsenal have signed teenage forward Gabriel Martinelli from Brazilian Serie D outfit Ituano, the Premier League club said on Tuesday.
According to media reports, the 18-year-old was secured for a transfer fee of six million British pounds (around 7.6 million U.S. dollars).
"Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli will join us from Ituano Futebol Clube on a long-term contract," read a statement on Arsenal's official website. "The agreement is subject to the completion of regulatory processes."
Martinelli, who does not turn 19 until next June, made his senior debut for Ituano last year after being promoted from the club's youth academy.
In May he was one of several young players called up by Brazil head coach Tite to train with the national team as they prepared for the current edition of the Copa America.
