NEW YORK, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Diego Costa scored four goals as Atletico Madrid trashed local rivals Real Madrid with an astonishing 7-3 victory in the International Champions Cup friendly on Friday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States.
"What happened is that we started the game very badly. It was a high-level game and we started badly and we didn't say to ourselves we could turn things around," Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said afterwards.
Real was already embarrassed 5-O behind to Atletico at half-time with Costa contributed a hat-trick. In the second half, the Spaniard made his fourth but was sent off later after an altercation with Carvajal in the 65th minute.
Vitolo finished a spectacular solo run and rewrote the score 6-0.
Newly-joined Eden Hazard helped Real Madrid get their first goal in the 59th minute. Later consolation goals from Karim Benzema and Javi Hernandez did little to turn the scale as the score came to 7-3.
"We don't need to worry too much about it. It's a press season game," Zidane said.
